Project
Eleven Eleven is an original sci-fi experience designed from the ground up for VR and AR. Inspired by immersive theater, the project gamifies the viewing experience by placing the user in the center of the action and allowing them to explore an alien world that is 11 minutes and 11 seconds away form destruction. Viewing on a headset or mobile phone, the user can follow any of six main characters and view their stories from multiple perspectives in order to unravel the multi-linear narrative as the clock counts down to zero in real time.
Commissioned by NBCUniversal for SYFY channel and Sky VR, the project was released in 2019 and shipped on seven different platforms including Oculus, Playstation, and iOS. It was honored as official selection at SXSW and the Venice Film Festival, earned a Design Week Award for Best AR/VR Experience, and was featured in the Apple App Store’s Stories “AR Rising” series.
I served as Creator and Executive Producer, overseeing production from ideation to launch and leading a global team of internal and external partners through the entire project lifecycle, including writing, art, engineering, UX/UI design, marketing, and distribution.
Multiple Storylines
Eleven Eleven is a Multilinear Narrative that unfolds in real time. The experience centers on six main characters who must face their demons or try to survive as the doomed world gets closer to destruction. The user can follow any character to learn their story, but it’s not until they witness all the stories that their interconnected nature becomes clear and their true fates are revealed.
Multiple Perspectives
In order to navigate the interactive story, users are able to view the experience in three different modes: Story Mode allows the user to attached to a character for a guided journey of their story, Explore Mode allows them to free roam the environment and view the action from any angle, and Goddess Mode lets them view the entire world all at once from above.
Goddess Mode
Taking advantage of VR and AR’s unmatched ability to demonstrate scale, Eleven Eleven offers a Goddess Mode that presents the entire environment in miniature so that the view can see all the action at once as it plays out below them like a living diorama.
Spatial Score
Eleven Eleven incorporates a Spatial Score, which attaches a unique soundtrack to each character that changes dynamically based on the user’s proximity to that character. The original score was composed by Bleeding Fingers – an award-winning music production studio founded by Hans Zimmer – and designed such that each character’s distinctive soundtrack can interlink seamlessly with the others, creating a unique experience for each user as they navigate between stories.
